Stigárdalur is a name I've
given to the unnamed valley east of the farms Hnappavellir. The river Stigá
comes from the glacier Stigárjökull and runs down this valley. Most of the
routes are on the west side of the river, but on the east side is Iceland's
second highest waterfall, Stigafoss 138 m. It needs very cold conditions to get in conditions.
There are more routes close to it. No one has climbed there yet.
Few hundred meters east of Hnappavellir
is 4WD track to get up there, but it can be tricky if there is snow on the
ground. (Some narrow streams that can be hard to get across).

This route is still unclimbed in January 2010. There are some big roof to clear
so this is a route only for grown ups.

This photo shows the biggest climbing area in
Stigárdalur. We call it Testofan (the tea room). It is in the far left side of
the valley. Routes a-g are in Testofan but route h is not.

The route is on the left when we are walking up to
the main climbing area in Testofan.
So in the southwest corner of the valley Stigárdalu
There are couple of routes possible at the
start of Stigárdalur, in the mountain on the left when you walk up to the
valley. PapaRASSI is the biggest most obvious route
that you will see close to the end of the 4wd trail. I don't have a picture from
this route right now.
