Öræfi is the most popular place in Iceland for rock climbing.

    Hnappavallahamrar (in east side of Öræfi) is by far the largest and best quality rock climbing area of the country,. Note that the area is not marked on maps, nor is there a sign at the main road, but everyone at the local hotel and guesthouses and in the visitors center in Skaftafell knows where to find it.

    There are about 100 bolted and 30 unbolted routes in these 10-25 meter high super quality rocks. Most of the bolted routes are quite hard but one can find routes from 5.3 - 5.13c.
